''The elf-queene, with hir joly compaignie, Daunced ful ofte in many a grene mede.” Geoffrey Chaucer "The Wife of Bath’s Tale"

UPDATE

Due to illness I sold house and moved, sold most of furniture, accessories with house so glad I'd done this site-- great memories!

HAGLER HOUSE BUTLERS PANTRY

butlers pantry at Hagley via BIG OLD HOUSES
Butlers pantry
Here's something I want someday/in next house - a Butler's pantry  or English larder!  (Including black and white title floor).  Love it.

THE COTTAGE DIAMOND PANE WINDOW

The Cottage faux diamond-pane window
Here's a view of snow at a past Christmas, note the Christmas tree on left, seen through the faux diamond pane window, chosen to give a bit of English cottage flair.  One day I hope to have the real thing.

IKEA LACE MESH CURTAINS

Ikea lace mesh curtains
I just loved these Ikea lace curtains  $4.99 pair,  but had to remove when those Asian 'ladybugs' came out of nowhere and became embedded in the gauzy fabric.

Dressing Table

Dressing table
Here's a makeshift dressing table draped with RL style cabbage rose chintz table-cover matching the RL comforter/ bed dressings on futon ready for guests,  out of view.  This look took up too much room so it's back in storage.

VINTAGE TRIO IN GREENS

Here's another view of vintage Victorian vanity with Egyptian green velvet tasseled vanity stool, vintage Hollywood Regency mantel with green faux marble surround and Victorian cocktail/ottoman in green w/red roses print, now at son's home.

COTTAGE COLUMNS

Columns face each other on opposite walls to divide greatroom dining area from living room at The Cottage. The living area has a tray ceiling and large diamond pane windows so the columns just accentuate the boundaries (feng shui). They add a touch of architectural interest to the plain Jane house and since they aren't structural, are easily removed if desired.

MOROCCAN UPLIGHT

Moroccan uplight I like, an example how attention to detail with accessories can set a theme/make a statement/touch of bling.  Delft vase peeking out on right, now at son's house along with the Italian marble top credenza all this is sitting on. Roses on canvas art signed A. Julian.

WHERE THERE'S A WILL..............

Pine closet in guestrm/study
Here's photo's of guestroom/study closet I installed myself (where there's a will there's a way...sigh) so room would qualify as third bedroom.

HAPPY VALENTINE

LAST VALENTINE CANDY BOX
Here's the last Valentine candy box, red pleated satin with faux crystal, I received from my sweet husband, RIP.  It's repurposed holding jewelry and crystals - luv it!

FAMILY FARM

Here's the last time I saw the house on the farm where I grew up. Replacing a wee shack,  Dad built it in 1940, a pretty bungalow nestled in the trees.  The new owners demolished it, all the buildings and trees so you'd never know this was ever there. By the way, this was on family farm on section  of  virgin land original to our family among earliest settlers of Butler County.

READY FOR TEA TIME

Pine trestle table at The Cottage ready for tea time.  English Johnson Brothers Strawberry Fair Transfer Ware on dessert server.  Teapot, vintage rose post war Made In Japan  cup and saucer on vintage Japanese Cloisonne tray I bought in 1970's.

DUTCH TILE

Faux tile
Here's photo trying out Dutch tile, printed from internet, behind plexiglass.  It was so cute I left up several months and visitors thought they were real and wanted to know where I bought them.  Luv it!

BROYHILL CLUB CHAIR

Vintage Broyhill club chair
Franco Albini vintage ottoman
Here's a better shot of the vintage Broyhill club chair, red roses on green upholstery, perfect for The Cottage.  With a view to downsize soon and because it was so large, it's now in son's home. Below photo of chair with  Franco Albini Italian architect designer vintage ottoman I bought in 70's for no more than $40, selling for  hundreds plus today.

FENG SHUI ENERGY SHIELD

Cottage Feng Shui lattice
According to feng shui I added lattice to shield front door from negative energy/road traffic.  At one time it had morning glory vines  but lost them to freezing temps and haven't replaced. Also feng shui says the door should be red but haven't got around to that yet.

LIBRARY BEADED DOOR CURTAIN

Here's a view of beaded door curtain "Library Books" that visitors always comment on. It's  feng shui energy/privacy shield without closing the door to study.  So fun!

VANITY

Here's the vintage Bassett piece used as vanity in bedroom, now used as computer desk in study. Gilt mirror now in powder room.
